Makhana is graded by the diameter of the popped kernel using the traditional Sutta system (1 Sutta = 3.175 mm). A "+" grade is a mix of sizes at or above that grade. HP means handpicked: after cleaning and grading, each kernel is checked one by one on an inspection conveyor.

Moisture and customisation

  • Standard moisture is 8-11%.
  • Reduced moisture down to 5% is available on request. The price may increase because of weight loss.
  • Customised quality and packaging are available.

Which grade for which use

  • Snack and roasted-makhana brands: 5 Sutta+ and 6 Sutta+ give bold, uniform kernels.
  • Economy retail and value packs: 4 Sutta+ mixes keep the pack full at a lower grade.
  • Powder and kheer: 3 Murra and 4 Sutta suit grinding and cooking, where kernel size matters less.
