Premium Fox Nuts for the British Health Snack Market

Short answer: National Makhana Udyog supplies graded, handpicked makhana (fox nuts) to UK importers in 4 Sutta+ to 6 Sutta+ grades, with a Certificate of Analysis and batch traceability for each lot. Air trials start from 8 kg, and a 20 ft container carries about 2–2.5 tonnes. Prices are quoted on request.

In the United Kingdom, consumers are rapidly discovering popped water lily seeds (makhana) as a high-protein alternative to popcorn, crisps and extruded corn snacks. National Makhana Udyog partners with UK brands and food distributors to supply graded kernels with consistent size and crunch.

Our supply chain is prepared for post-Brexit UK import rules, including Border Control Post (BCP) documentation, plant health declarations, and laboratory testing for moisture, aflatoxins and microbial safety.

We have met UK and European buyers in person. National Makhana Udyog exhibited at IFE 2025 at ExCeL London (17 to 19 March 2025), our first international food exhibition, with the support of the Ministry of MSME, Government of India, and the Department of Industries, Government of Bihar. The visit was also reported by Dainik Bhaskar and Dainik Jagran. What UK importers should confirm before ordering

  • Importer registration: a business that imports food into Great Britain is generally a food business operator and registers with its local authority.
  • Import conditions: checks at the border depend on the product. Your importer or customs broker should confirm the current conditions on GOV.UK for dried plant-based foods before ordering. We supply the phytosanitary certificate, Certificate of Analysis and traceability records.
  • Labelling: packs sold in the UK follow UK food labelling rules, including ingredient and allergen information and a UK address. Private-label packs are printed to your approved artwork.
  • Packaging tax: UK Plastic Packaging Tax may apply to imported plastic packaging, so check it before choosing retail pouches.

Rules change. Your importer or customs broker should confirm current UK requirements before ordering. The Food Standards Agency explains the checks on high-risk food and feed of non-animal origin for Great Britain, so you can see whether they apply to your product.

Roasted & flavoured makhana for UK brands

  • Ready flavours: Peri Peri, Salt & Pepper and Lemon & Mint.
  • Formats: 50 g retail pouches, bulk packs, or your own brand and pack size.
  • Other flavours for UK tastes can be developed for private label.

How a UK order works, step by step

This is the path from first message to goods at a UK port.

  1. Tell us what you need. Product, grade, pack size, quantity and whether you prefer Felixstowe, Southampton or London Gateway.
  2. Agree the terms. Quotation on an EXW, FOB or CIF basis, with 50% advance and 50% against the commercial invoice (LC accepted).
  3. Approve a sample. A trial by air from 8 kg lets you check size, flavour and your own lab results before a container order.
  4. We prepare and ship. The material is prepared in 2 to 15 working days and shipped from an Indian port. Transit time depends on the shipping line.
  5. Clear the goods. We send the phytosanitary certificate, Certificate of Analysis, certificate of origin and batch records for your customs broker.

Custom Seasonings for British Palates

We roast makhana in an air fryer first. Then, on customer demand, we add seasoning with avocado oil, olive oil or pure ghee. We develop flavour formulations for UK consumers, such as Sea Salt & Cider Vinegar, Cracked Black Pepper, Cheese & Chive and Smoked Paprika.
